Regretfully I have to tell you that Hanauma Bay is no longer a free destination. As beautiful as it is Hanauma Bay is being tranformed into a paying sight to explore. You can do the things you enjoy like snorkling and enjoying the ocean and other things. With paying there are many do's and don'ts too.

Other changes to Oahu? Ward Warehouse has changed ownership. New owners want to change it to Ward Neighborhood.

The Old Timer's Secret

The most interesting places to know about and to save your money, is not always right around the corner of the known places. Old Timers on the island can tell you the best and cheapest place to get the freshest fruits and vegetables and other goodies, is Oahu Market and Kekaulike Mall near Chinatown, Oahu. You can access these culinary ethnic shops from North King Street or North Hotel Street. They close early though at 5:PM usually I noticed things are already closed for the day. So for the best shopping times they're open, 6:AM to 3:PM the last time I checked. During the holidays you can find your favorite dishes you savor the whole year like opihi, "melt in your mouth" roast pork, and hard to find vegetables like Chinese peas, or hard to find fruits like breadfruit (both when in season it's abundant and good). If you're a first timer at these shops try the walking tours to get acquainted with the area or you can explore it at leisure at your own pace coming on the bus (parking is hard to find). They're open Monday through Saturday for I've never seen it open on Sunday so far. If you love seafood and inexpensive prices, Tamashiro Market, right here in my home town, Kalihi, is the place to go. If you want any seafood any fresher you've got to catch it yourself! Don't forget the Swap Meets on Oahu for bargains galore. One day after my mother came home from a doctors visit at Honolulu Kaiser Permanente Hospital where she came across "Fresh Fridays" where fresh vegetables, fruits, and sometimes crafts are sold right inside an air conditioned Clinic first floorCulinary Calendar has all the different places and times, where the farmers have fresh produce, flowers, and crafts for sale at very reasonable prices too. Leave it to the Old Timer to find the best at the least.
